Religious Programmes

Enhancing the spiritual life of offenders constitutes an important part of the rehabilitation process. The NCS allows and encourages offenders to satisfy their spiritual inclinations and needs by attending religious services of their specific church organisations as well as by promoting their knowledge and practical application of the principles of their distinctive churches.

In line with principles and objectives of the ORMCS, the focus for our religious programmes has evolved from merely attending church services, bible reading and preaching to becoming serious efforts at sparking and sustaining deep seated positive change and long term desistance from crime. We have chosen to concentrate on restorative justice and pastoral counselling as a major focus of our religious programming because there is a growing body of research evidence demonstrating their efficacy in promoting desistance from crime.
